If you’re building in Cameroon, cement will be one of your biggest line items. It’s also one of the hardest to pin down.
Ask three hardware shops for a price and you’ll get three answers. The government publishes an official price. The brand has its own list price. And what you actually pay on the day depends on your city, your grade and how far the truck has to go.
So what should you realistically budget per bag in 2026?
In this guide, you’ll learn:
- The official price of a 50 kg bag by brand, in Douala and Yaoundรฉ
- What people actually pay at the shop
- Why the two numbers don’t match
- How to pick the right grade, so you don’t pay for strength you don’t need
- 7 practical ways to lower your cement bill
Let’s get into it.

Summary: Cement Prices in Cameroon
- Official prices (50 kg bag): about 4,150 to 5,000 FCFA in Douala and 4,450 to 5,300 FCFA in Yaoundรฉ, depending on brand and grade.
- Street prices in early 2026: around 5,200 FCFA (typically 5,100 to 5,300) in both cities.
- Online price guides: average 5,500 to 5,800 FCFA, with one catalog quoting 6,200 FCFA before transport.
- Cheapest grade: 32.5R. The stronger 42.5R costs roughly 500 to 600 FCFA more per bag.
- The catch: official grids cover specific brands and cities, and shop prices often sit above them.
Most official figures below come from the Ministry of Commerce’s December 2023 and December 2024 grids, the latest ones I could verify. I didn’t find a newer published grid, so check current prices locally before you buy.
Official Cement Prices in Cameroon by Brand
The Ministry of Commerce periodically publishes approved (“homologated”) prices after talks with producers. Here are the latest grids I could find, converted into one table.
| Brand | Grade | Douala | Yaoundรฉ | Date of grid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cimencam (Multix) | 32.5R | 4,300 | 4,600 | Dec 2024 |
| Cimencam (Robust) | 42.5R | 4,900 | 5,200 | Dec 2024 |
| Cimfig (Multix, ex-Garoua) | 32.5R | n/a | n/a | Dec 2024 (Garoua: 5,200) |
| Cimfig (Robust, ex-Garoua) | 42.5R | n/a | n/a | Dec 2024 (Garoua: 6,200) |
| Mira | 32.5R | 4,150 | 4,450 | Dec 2024 |
| Mira | 42.5R | 4,700 | 5,000 | Dec 2024 |
| Dangote (Falcon) | 32.5R | 4,450 | 4,750 | Dec 2023 |
| Dangote | 42.5R 3X | 5,000 | 5,300 | Dec 2023 |
| Cimpor Cameroun | 42.5R | 5,000 | 5,300 | Dec 2023 |
| Cimaf | 32.5R | 4,450 | 4,750 | Dec 2023 |
| Cimaf | 42.5R | 5,000 | 5,300 | Dec 2023 |
All prices in FCFA per 50 kg bag.
Where each number comes from:
Cimencam and Cimfig (December 2024). The Minister of Commerce’s communiquรฉ set Cimencam’s 32.5R Multix at 4,300 FCFA in Douala and 4,600 in Yaoundรฉ, and its 42.5R Robust at 4,900 in Douala and 5,200 in Yaoundรฉ. For Cimfig, Multix was set at 5,200 and Robust at 6,200 per bag at Garoua. Prices in other towns are adjusted for distance and transport costs.
Mira (December 2024). The 42.5R grade was cut by 200 FCFA to 4,700 in Douala and 5,000 in Yaoundรฉ, and the 32.5R was cut to 4,150 in Douala and 4,450 in Yaoundรฉ.
Dangote, Cimpor and Cimaf (December 2023). Dangote’s Falcon 32.5R was set at 4,450 FCFA in Douala and 4,750 in Yaoundรฉ, and its 42.5R 3X at 5,000 and 5,300. Cimpor Cameroun received its first approved price for 42.5R at the same 5,000 and 5,300. Cimaf applied the same cuts as Cimencam on the same bags, according to Investir au Cameroun. I couldn’t find a newer grid for these three, so treat them as the last official reference, not today’s price.
Two things jump out of this table.
1. Mira’s 32.5R is the lowest official price on the list. At 4,150 FCFA in Douala, it undercuts every other brand’s approved price for the standard grade.
2. Official prices have barely moved in years. In July 2021, Cimencam’s Multix 32.5 was fixed at 4,300 FCFA in Douala and 4,600 in Yaoundรฉ, and Robust 42.5 at 4,600 and 4,900. By December 2024, Multix was at exactly the same level, and Robust was only 300 FCFA higher. (Comparison is my own.)
What You Actually Pay at the Shop
Official prices are one thing. Shelf prices are another.

In early 2026, a 50 kg bag in both Douala and Yaoundรฉ was commonly priced around 5,200 FCFA, generally between 5,100 and 5,300 depending on the outlet. That’s often above the approved grid for the standard grade.
Here’s a retail snapshot from the Bativel online hardware catalog (undated, so treat it as indicative):
| Product | Listed price per 50 kg bag |
|---|---|
| Mira-Co CEM II/B-P 32.5R | 4,475 FCFA |
| Cimencam Multix 32.5 | 4,740 FCFA |
| Mira-Co CEM II/B-P 42.5 | 5,100 FCFA |
| Cimaf 42.5 (grey) | 5,100 to 5,500 FCFA |
| Dangote 42.5 (grey) | 5,150 FCFA |
| Cimencam Kosto 42.5 | 5,600 FCFA |
| Cimencam Hydro 42.5 | 6,750 FCFA |
Source: Bativel’s cement and lime category page.
Notice how wide the range is. The same 50 kg of 42.5-class cement runs from about 5,100 to 6,750 FCFA depending on brand and product line. Hydro, for example, is a specialty product and priced accordingly.
Price guides add a further spread:
- One 2026 guide puts the average at 5,500 FCFA in Douala (range 5,000 to 6,000) and 5,800 in Yaoundรฉ (range 5,200 to 6,500).
- The SangoImmo costing catalog (updated August 2026) quotes an indicative supply price of 6,200 FCFA per bag, excluding transport and installation.
A realistic planning range: roughly 5,000 to 5,800 FCFA per bag in Douala and Yaoundรฉ, and more in towns far from the plants. That range is my synthesis of the sources above, not an official figure.

Why Cement Prices in Cameroon Stay High
Here’s the puzzle. Cameroon has more cement capacity than it needs, so prices should be falling. They aren’t.
Cameroon’s production capacity is estimated at close to 12 million tonnes a year, against demand estimated a few years ago at around 8 million. A new plant at Kribi would bring the number of producers to ten, more than a decade after Cimencam’s monopoly ended. Cimencam is a local subsidiary of LafargeHolcim Maroc Afrique.
So why the lag? A few forces are at work.
1. Input costs, especially clinker
Back in 2021, Cimencam argued that higher international clinker prices, the main ingredient in cement, justified raising bag prices by up to 1,200 FCFA, while the government held the Yaoundรฉ price at 4,900 and the Douala price at 4,300. The same article noted that the Commerce Minister had warned price adjustments couldn’t be ruled out, since the last approval in the construction materials sector went back at least ten years.
2. Government price-setting
Retailers often blame the official grid. One Douala seller argued the producers would sell for less if left alone, saying it’s the government that obliges them to sell at the approved price. That article is old (roughly 2017), so take it as context rather than current fact.
3. Transport and distance
SangoImmo estimates transport can add 300 to 800 FCFA per bag depending on distance. In other words, the further you are from the plants, the higher the price climbs.
4. Falling volumes
Dangote’s Cameroon subsidiary sold 596,800 tonnes of cement in the first half of 2026, down 13.1% year on year. Weaker sales amid high prices suggest that cost is weighing on construction demand.

Which Cement Grade Do You Actually Need?
Paying for the wrong grade is the easiest way to waste money.
CEM II 32.5R: the cheaper, general-purpose option. It’s fine for mortar and render.
CEM II / CEM I 42.5R: the stronger option. Use it for load-bearing concrete. Look at the official grids above: Cimencam’s Robust 42.5R costs 600 FCFA more than Multix 32.5R in Douala (4,900 vs. 4,300).
Buying 42.5R for plastering is money down the drain. Using 32.5R for columns and beams without your engineer’s approval is a risk you shouldn’t take. Let your mix design decide.
A rough sense of scale: a typical structural mix uses somewhere around 300 to 350 kg of cement per cubic metre of concrete, or about 6 to 7 bags. (General rule of thumb, not from the sources above; your engineer’s mix design governs.) At 5,200 FCFA per bag, that’s about 31,000 to 36,000 FCFA of cement per cubic metre.
7 Ways to Pay Less for Cement in Cameroon
1. Match the grade to the job.
Use 32.5R for blocks, mortar and rendering where your engineer allows it, and save 42.5R for structural work. The gap is about 500 to 600 FCFA per bag.
2. Compare brands at the same grade.
Official 32.5R prices ranged from 4,150 (Mira) to 4,450 (Dangote, Cimaf) in Douala. That’s a 300 FCFA difference per bag, or 30,000 FCFA across 100 bags.
3. Compare delivered prices, not shelf prices.
Transport can add 300 to 800 FCFA per bag. A shop that’s cheaper on paper but farther away may cost more once it’s on your site.
4. Know the official price before you negotiate.
Check the latest Ministry of Commerce communiquรฉ. If a shop charges well above the approved price for your brand, you have a negotiating point.
5. Check the bagging date.
Cement deteriorates within weeks in humid conditions, so a cheap bag that’s been sitting in a damp store isn’t a bargain.
6. Buy in stages, not all at once.
Buying everything upfront locks up cash and risks spoilage. Order what you’ll use within a few weeks, especially in humid zones such as Douala and Kribi.
7. Ask about quantity discounts.
For larger volumes, ask wholesalers and hardware dealers directly. Given the wide spread between shops, a polite request can save you a few hundred FCFA per bag.
FAQ: Cement Prices in Cameroon
How much is a bag of cement in Cameroon?
Roughly 5,000 to 5,800 FCFA per 50 kg bag in Douala and Yaoundรฉ in 2026, with official grids running lower (about 4,150 to 5,300 FCFA depending on brand and grade).
Which cement brand is cheapest in Cameroon?
Based on the latest official grids I found, Mira’s 32.5R had the lowest approved price (4,150 FCFA in Douala). Check current shop prices, as these change.
What’s the difference between 32.5R and 42.5R?
42.5R is stronger and costs more. Use it for load-bearing work, and use 32.5R for mortar and rendering.
Why is cement expensive in Cameroon despite overcapacity?
Input costs like clinker, regulated prices, transport, and slow price adjustment all play a part, even though capacity is estimated at about 12 million tonnes against demand of around 8 million.
Is cement cheaper in Douala than Yaoundรฉ?
Official prices are typically about 300 FCFA lower in Douala, where the main plants are. Street prices were similar in both cities in early 2026.
Who sets cement prices in Cameroon?
The Ministry of Commerce publishes approved prices after talks with producers. Actual shop prices can differ.
Final Thoughts
The bottom line: budget around 5,000 to 5,800 FCFA per 50 kg bag in Douala or Yaoundรฉ, expect more elsewhere, and treat the official grid as a floor to negotiate from rather than a guarantee.
The two biggest levers are in your hands: choose the right grade, and compare delivered prices across brands.
Before you place your order, call three suppliers and ask for the delivered price for the same grade. That one step could save you thousands of FCFA on a single project.
